Advanced formulas can be used to perform many functions from simple addition to complex equations.
The following operators can be used in the Advanced formula:
- Addition +
- Subtraction -
- Multiplication *
- Division /
- Parentheses ()
You can adjust the order of operation by adding parentheses () to the Score builder. Any calculations between these parentheses will be done first by the formula.
Total Scoring Advanced Formula Example:
For the below example, we'll be using an advanced formula to calculate the total score on the form.
We'll first need a few Formulas to calculate each area, then we'll use an Advanced Formula last to combine all the scores and use them as a percentage.
- To start we'll first need to add a formula field this can be done by selecting the formula button on the left-hand side of the screen as shown here.
- To create the Formula in this example, we've titled the Formula "Total Percentage (100%)
- Click the Go to Formula button on the right side of the Form Builder.
- Click the Advanced formula under the Formula Type. Click or drag the question fields that would be part of the formula.
-
Each question field has a unique Question number (Qxx). These are the ones included in the formula field to represent their respective question.
Here we're adding all the existing formula's together within parentheses then in the next parentheses we're dividing the total by 19 since the total score points equal 19 in this example we're able to find this information by selecting the formulas to add to this question as an example Q68 has a point value of 10
We then multiply the amount outside the parentheses by 100 to give us our total percentage.Add the operators needed for the formula: addition +, multiplication *, division /, and parentheses ()
-
Click the Publish button in the upper right corner to Save the formula.
- To test the formula, click the 'Preview Form' button at the top right of the form builder screen.
Forms in Preview Form mode will not be submitted.

Register Count Example:
For this example, we're exploring a common use of Advanced Formulas and their role in Safe Counts/Till Counts
This formula can also be used to calculate inventory
- For This example we're going to look at how to use an Advanced Formula to calculate the sums of Rolls of Pennies, Firstly you'll need a number question and a Formula below
- With our knowledge of a roll of pennies being worth 50 cents, the advanced formula for addition in this case is quite simple
Here we're using the number entered in the above number question 'Roll pennies Each Roll: $0.50' With this in mind we're able to use multiplication to get our answer Q4*0.5 which translates to Question 4 x 0.5 - Once happy with your formula use the Preview Form feature to test the functionality
- For the Roll of Nickles, we know each roll of nickles comes to a total of $2.00 which means our formula reads as follows Q8*2
- Lastly, we can use a basic formula to add all balances together to arrive at our Safe Total/Register Count Total
